DRAGON AU
Prometheus hibernated a lot.
There wasn't much else to do, as a hermit-dragon. He couldn't venture out into the world in case some intrepid 'adventurer' wanted to slay him for bragging rights or his hide, he couldn't mingle with other dragons because he was one of Nidhogg's brood (a fact which was why he couldn't socialise with any Ishgardians because spears inevitably got involved in those conversations, he knew, he still had the scar on his hindquarters from his last naive attempt), and he knew absolutely no one else, knew nothing about the world or its new continents or civilisations, so hibernating it was.
But even then, sleeping got dull.
Prometheus sighed deeply, drawing his wings tighter about himself. Perhaps it was because he spent so much time sleeping, but his draconic body evolved to have furred wings - which was nice, it was very warm, even if they did shed some strange, fluffy black motes from time to time (he soon learned that these motes were highly toxic to mortals, probably from his subconscious desire to be left alone slipping into this body's maturing evolution). The downy undercoat of his wings was shed often and thickly enough that he even had a little nest, in a cave warmed by geothermic means, in the high mountains of Coethas. It was cosy, safe, and isolated.
It was also boring and devoid of anything. Prometheus came here... fuck, centuries? Or millennia? He couldn't remember. A long while, just after the war between Ishgard and the dragons kicked off in earnest. He flew here as a dragonnet, and slept and slept and slept, with miserable waking moments in between where he went to stretch his wings, eat a bear or something, and crawled back in his warm, soft cave to sleep some more.
He was avoiding reality, he knew. He didn't understand why he woke up in the form of a dragon - an alien species, not native to their star, how the hell did the reincarnation cycle mess up that badly!? - what happened to Amaurot, why the geography was completely different and... where Hades and Hythlodaeus were. He remembered, in the early days of his life, he would cry out through the Lifestream to hear nothing back, and was slowly accepting that, maybe, it was just him. Alone.
No Hades. No Hythlodaeus. Just him and his cave.
He exhaled heavily, flexing his claws as his body sluggishly roused from its latest bout of hibernation. His stomach was an empty pit of starvation, so he had to eat something calorie dense before dozing back off again. The only thing was, it took ages for his body to fully 'wake up'. Spending centuries practically in a coma made his limbs lock up, and it took a while for the aether flowing through his body to regain strength and feeling in them again. Not that he was in any rush...

Hades frowned. That sounded the very most like him. He sighed and teleported out on his way. It would be troublesome to walk around as a Garlean, so he found himself glamouring away his third eye and swapped his costume for something more regional. A cave, he had said. Hades turned on his sight, seeing that familiar glint.
He approached carefully. It would be just like him to have traps, or to throw a bolt of magic through his skull. Which would be inconvenient to explain when he came back a few minutes later with the same body.
He rounded the corner to look into the cave. He was surprised that there were no furnishings... That was a little bare, even for Prometheus. He headed inside, carefully, deciding to make himself known.
"Hello! Is anyone in here? I was hoping to take refuge..." from what, he didn't bother naming. "I have food to share!"
no subject
His dragon form was rather unique, from what he gathered, in that his eyes were curiously underdeveloped, despite that being the fount of a dragon's strength. It implied his body hadn't finished growing, which, considering dragons took even longer than Amaurotines to mature, didn't really concern him. It did mean that he didn't 'see' conventionally, and instead had to rely on a mixture of aether-vision, scent and sound. For extra precision, he could erect his feelers from their relaxed posture alongside his head, which pretty much gave him perfect 'vision' by sensing aether down to the most microscopic mote... but that gave him a headache after a while, so he only really used it if he needed to.
So, he wasn't quite sure what this presence was initially. It smelled like a human, but the soul was far too big for that - in fact, it felt familiar? Smelled?
Prometheus shifted his bulk, the noise of scales sliding against stone echoing through the cave when a human voice called out in Common Tongue. Even the voice sounded familiar, an itching in the back of his mind that teased the black, gaping holes in his memory. He knew this person, he knew them well... wait... could it be...?!
From Hades's perspective, it probably looked like some great shadow rising from the depths of the cave, lines of glowing pink flaring to life as Prometheus's feelers flicked up. The silohuette was clearly that of a dragon - a very large, sluggish looking dragon who was clearly still half-asleep.
But, Prometheus's feelers confirmed his suspicions. He did know this soul. He knew it very well. He knew it so well, he felt scandalised that he didn't immediately recognise them! Hades! It was Hades! At long last, after wasting away here, lonely and believing himself alone, Hades was here! How did he find him? Was it coincidence? Fate? Intentionally?!
No, no, play it cool. This might be... Hades reborn just like him. Ignorant or missing memories entirely. Play it cool. If he came on too strong, he might scare him off, and then what would he do!?
"Unless you're packing a bear in your pack," he said, deciding to be kind and twist his words into Common Tongue, instead of that disorientating 'I'm speaking dragon but gonna shove the Common translation directly into your brain haha enjoy the migraine fucker' way most dragons deployed, "I don't think your food will sate me."

A somberness finally settled in his heart.
“If you are truly hungry...” Hades started, approaching slowly with his hands by his sides. “I would be happy to offer myself to you. Apologies that I’m not as big as a bear.”
Hades knelt before Prometheus, admiring his unique beauty. One of nidhogg’s brood by the coloration. He peeled away his travelers vest, laying it down beside him. He began to shiver, as he considered what he was wearing, and what might more and less pleasant to eat.
no subject
...
Wow, okay, what?
"Uh." Prometheus started, then stopped.
No. Seriously. What?
"I, uh, what...?" he stammered awkwardly, trying to figure out how this went from 'hi, I have food!' to 'oh great dragon please devour me whole!' Did Hades reincarnate into a man with an unsatisfied vore fetish? Unless this was actually Hades and... he was being weird, or, this was a joke?
His feelers twitched, and he focused his aether-sense to a razor-sharp precision. The aether eddied weirdly around Hades, like watching light warp around a compressed black hole... wait, maybe that is what's happening...? Hades's soul was so dense with aether, there was no way he was a normal human! Which meant, he must recognise Prometheus as him so, what? Was this a weird romantic gesture on his part? Why didn't he just introduce himself as himself!?
What the fuck was happening.
"I... never realised you were into vore, Hades," he said blankly, too bewildered to remember his plan on playing it cool, "But, um, that's a bit much, even for me, sorry..."
Especially since he didn't know if he could 'spit out' Hades's soul afterwards!
no subject
“Prometheus. Are you actually Prometheus?!” Hades stood, stumbling towards him, the shock and adrenaline numbing his legs. “What?! How? How long have you been here?”
He placed his hands on either side of Prometheus’ head as his mouth went dry.
He shook his head, finally hearing Prometheus’ words. “I’m not into vore, I...” but he trailed off. How was he going to play this off? He wasn’t expecting this at all.
no subject
...
Hades's hands were warm. He exhaled heavily, letting his head droop slightly, resting more into Hades's palms.
"If you're Hades, then I'm Prometheus," he said quietly, finding some awful, dragging weight slowly lift from his heart when he realised he wasn't alone. He didn't understand how Hades took so long to find him, but he'll get sulky about that later, once he's sure this isn't some vivid dream his lonely brain was cooking up.
"I dunno how long I've been here, though," he admitted, "Um, I came here when the dragons and humans started fighting each other, because I didn't want to get involved. Then I just slept, because I was alone and no one answered me when I called."
no subject
“A thousand years ago, then...” where was Hades, then? Sleeping, probably, exhausted after they had collapsed one of the worlds or he tirelessly built an empire and needed to restore his strength.
“I must have been outside of your grasp...dreaming. I’ve slept often... the last time
I was truly active was three-thousand years ago and five-thousand years ago. I must have just missed your calls...” by a measly thousand years. The immortality could truly be a burden at times. “By coincidence, Lahabrea told me that he saw you here. Oh, how I’ve missed you, my moon and stars.”
Hades was getting really mushy, but he could hardly held it.
Hades sat, resting his head on Prometheus, stroking his scales.
no subject
Or, well, he did, but it was such a rarity that it left Prometheus reeling a little. He was already overwhelmed - just, Hades, here, a gaping hole he had been quietly enduring suddenly filled. He missed him. He missed him so much, and he was here, his warm hands stroking over his scales, gentle, familiar, making Prometheus want to cry, even though he lacked the physical capability for it.
He couldn't even kiss him back, because of his snout. All he could do was nuzzle him back, slowly extending his wings so his 'wingarms' could wrap around Hades in a parody of an embrace. At least the furred membrane would keep him warm?
"I missed you too," Prometheus whispered, shivering with each slow, lovely stroke of Hades's hands over his scales. Every contact felt like electricity - he was so touch-starved it was pathetic, "I-I thought you were gone forever, and, and I didn't know where you went, or where anyone was, and, I was all alone and..."
It was all bubbling up, those lonely, grieving emotions, compressed and ignored for the past thousand years. Had it really been that long...? Stars, he wasted a thousand years moping about in this cave! But he hadn't been able to do anything else, as lost as he'd been. A low, barely audible keening noise was whining in the back of his throat as he nuzzled into Hades's hands, against his cheek, his feelers slowly lying flat against his head to cut off the headache-inducing sensory flow. This close, all he needed was to feel, smell and hear Hades. He didn't need to see him.
no subject
“So... you aren’t still angry with me?” Hades asked, assertively just slipping under Prometheus’ wing to warm himself and to just make as much physical contact as he could. He was nervous touching Prometheus’ soul, tainted as he was. What would he think?
He pressed his cheek against Prometheus’ massive head, just enjoying his hot breath.
no subject
He did have a fight with Hades before he left. A petty, stupid fight where Hades had told him not to go because it sounded dangerous, and Prometheus's pride had been wounded at the implication of being incompetent enough to be hurt by some roaming band of mundane monsters. They squabbled and... Hades must've been stewing in guilt all this time, knowing him. How he must've felt, realising Prometheus died in Xerora, thinking how he should've tried harder to stop him. He would've shouldered the blame for it all, the idiot.
Oh, that silly man.
Prometheus crooned quietly when Hades leant against his head, adjusting his wing so it tucked over Hades as comfortably as possible, splaying the large, clawed hand of his wing against the ground to angle it properly.
"You were right, y'know," Prometheus admitted, deciding he can swallow his pride this once, since they both stupidly suffered from it long enough, "I shouldn't have gone to Xerora. It was stupid of me and... I don't quite remember what happened there, but I think I must've died, righy? I get an awful, cold feeling trying to remember..."
no subject
Thank Zodiark for this small blessing, that his beloved could not remember the second most terrible moment—
“You should have never gone... You did die,” Hades said, guarding his tone. “And it was terrible. You were... well, what happened was...” Hades stopped. He didn’t need to ruin this. “You don’t need to know. It’s bad enough that I know. I’m never letting you out of my sight again.”
no subject
"I can't see you willingly staying in this boring old cave just to stay with me," Prometheus joked a bit weakly, nudging his snout against Hades's sternum. Scent and sensation was all he had to 'see' Hades right now, and he was using it to its fullest. Hm, was Hades always this small? Or maybe Prometheus's dragon body had grown so large, "And, I don't..."
Here, Prometheus hesitated, because this question had been burning inside of him since the moment he was 'born' here.
"The world outside is so... different, and violent," he said quietly, "People keep attacking me when they see me, and all the continents and cities are different. I couldn't find Amaurot anywhere, or anyone else."
no subject
“Amaurot is very far from here,” he said, a mite cryptically. “The journey would be difficult, and I’m not sure how I would bring you there in your stare.” God he had to be careful from here on out. Of course he could just outright control Prometheus, but that’s not what he wanted. He had to be careful, to show him the information in the right order to come to the proper conclusion on his own. Only then would he reveal the truth of the matter.
For now, perhaps he should just distract Prometheus. Distract himself. Damn his curiosity, even if it was one of his best traits. “I feel that you should know that I had come here to seduce you,” Hades said, stroking one of his horns.
no subject
But Prometheus was ignorant on how the world was right now, so perhaps he should just leave it to Hades to explain. He never steered him wrong before.
At the comment of being seduced, Prometheus was effectively distracted from his confusion over Amaurot's location. He laughed, "Of course you did! I bet you were expecting me to be, um, human, though..."
Ah, the fingers stroking his feeler felt very nice. Being an 'aether-sensor' of sorts, it was sensitive to touch, having the consistency of a leatherback turtle's shell with small grooves and spirals inlaid in it. He purred without meaning too, his head dipping into the contact as his claws flexed into the ground, his tail swishing in clear pleasure. Every gentle touch of Hades's fingers against his feeler made a prickle go down his spine, and it was lovely.
"Are you still gonna seduce me...?" he murmured.
no subject
“Hmm, I was expecting a human. Preferable to small folk however, I have to say. It would be easy enough for me to transform you, though it would be permanent,” he said this with a lilt to his voice, indicating that it wouldn’t be such a shame. The purrs felt nice, and he leaned in and closed his eyes in response. They were in this stupid, cold cave because Prometheus was equally stupid. This was a terrible place to attempt any seduction.
And of course it sullied it somewhat after they were expecting the seduction.
no subject
Prometheus thought about it, transforming, but... he found himself surprisingly reluctant about it. While being a dragon had its large drawbacks, it was... nice, too. He could sleep for centuries without issue, he could fly whenever he wished, and people naturally left him alone - well, if they didn't attack him, at least. To shed that form to become... himself? He'd forgotten what he looked like, from Amaurot. That wasn't 'him' anymore, as he viewed it. No, this dragon was now 'him'.
"I quite like being a dragon," he said quietly, hesitant to upset Hades with this decision - he might not like him as a dragon, which was valid, since your partner spontaneously changing species was an understandable dealbreaker, but it'd still... hurt a little, that rejection.
"I only want to change if I can revert back to this," he continued, "So, if you want to hold off any seduction until then... I mean, I'm all scaly and lizardy right now, so..."
no subject
"This cave is really cramping my style. It's a fantastic place to offer ones soul up, but less so for this..." Hades, then, snapped his fingers, bringing the two of them thousands of miles away. The first thing to note was that it was just a private island, seemingly in the middle of the sea. Hades had created a few things on it, making it clear that he came here sometimes. He did it to get away from dreadful Garlemald at times, but of course it was much too early to bring up Garlemald.
The weather wasn't too hot, and a cold breeze swept across the trees and rustled the plants. Hades was now standing a bit away, staring off at the moon. "Better."
no subject
"If I don't make you work harder, all you do is laze about," he teased, nuzzling Hades's palm with his snout. It was a bit strange, trying to be affectionate in a dragony way, but with Hades it felt entirely natural. They always did seem to click, despite butting heads so often.
At the sudden teleport - a strange teleport, one that bypassed the Lifestream entirely and filled his aethersense with impressions of purple haze and shadows - he smelled sea breeze and felt sand beneath his claws. He made a startled noise, his wings flaring out a little before they settled around him once more, his feelers flicking upright to get a better look of his surroundings.
A small island, deep in the ocean. It brimmed with water-wind aether, the beach teeming with marine life. He rose to his feet, his muscles feeling stiff as he walked for the first time in probably decades, lumbering in a slow, swaying gait resembling that of a prowling leopard as he did a very careful, tight circle around Hades, clearly mapping out a clear image of his immediate surroundings.
"...is this your own island?" Prometheus asked. The whole place stank of Hades's aether, mingled with Something Else. That 'something else' teased at his memory, but he couldn't pinpoint it for the life of him. He came to a stop in front of Hades, his feelers flattening back along his skull as he swung his head towards his partner.
no subject
"The storms get bad enough that no one will ever come here, either," Hades said with a pull of his lips. Currently, the sky was clear, offering Prometheus a view of completely changed stars.
Hades thought vaguely that it would be nice to ride Prometheus around, but shook the thought from his head. No, right now he just wanted to be close... In a different way.
The little beach house was too small for Prometheus to enter as he was. There were dense tropical trees, some wildlife... Mostly birds. The house itself was unweathered, offering absolutely no clue to how long it had been there. Excellent Amaurotine Creation, clearly. Wherever they were, it was slowly becoming dawn now, the sky slowly beginning to lighten.
Hades dropped the rest of his things on the ground, pulling off his boots and shedding his trousers shamelessly. "Shall we swim?"
no subject
There was a part of him that was so afraid this was some vivid dream he was going to wake up from. But, if it was a dream, then he should do all he can to enjoy it to the fullest, right?
Their own private island, just them... Prometheus could set aside his confusion and curiosity for the time being.
"Swimming sounds lovely," he purred, already knowing his dragon form was reasonably aquatic. If he kept his wings tightly pinned to his body, he tended to swim like a crocodile. He wasn't very fast though, as heavy and dense with muscle as he was. But it sounded nice, just to lazily float in the seawater with Hades. It was like colour returning to an otherwise grey existence, and things that Prometheus had viewed dispassionately were suddenly vivid and exciting - so long as Hades was with him.
"I'll even let you ride me in the water..." he continued, letting the innuendo hang between them before starting to gently nudge Hades towards the water.
no subject
“Oh, ride you...? You don’t have anything too sharp down your back, do you?” and though he skirted the innuendo, Hades tried to surreptitiously glance between Prometheus’ legs. Once he was waist deep, he tipped back to float.
Of course Hades didn’t actively seek exercise... but with Prometheus around he felt himself wanting this. His energy naturally seemed to expand, even if Prometheus could tire him out, especially with his physical activities. Well, absence did make the heart grow fonder.
no subject
Instead, he let Hades lead him into the water by his feeler, purring at the warmth as he sunk into it. He didn't go too deep, just enough that the water buoyed him enough that he could tuck his legs up and still float, his tail acting as a rudder against the lazy currents eddying against the beach. He floated comfortably beside Hades, his snout lightly nudging against his shoulder every so often.
"Nah, there's nothing sharp there," he said, "Unless you sit over my pelvis. Then you might sit on a tailspike."
Indeed, his tail did have a row of squat, yet wickedly sharp spikes along the spine - if used as a bludgeon, it would cause some serious damage, especially as the limb was thick and muscular. Of course, being a pacifist, Prometheus never used his tail for such violent means - so those spikes remained razor sharp from disuse.
He flicked his tail in the water, letting Hades get a glimpse of the long limb, before he floated close enough to rest his head on Hades's stomach - not heavy enough to cause him to sink, but enough for him to feel the weight of it.
"I like it when you stroke my horns," he murmured, "Your hands feel really warm and nice..."
no subject
Part of him wanted to just nap with Prometheus' essence so nearby, another part afraid that if he wasn't careful, Prometheus would be gone the next time he opened his eyes. how difficult.
"Your horns are interesting... Sort of soft," Hades murmured. "If you put any more weight on me, however, I will sink," he said with a chuckle. "So big... What am I going to do with you?"
Hades did still want to intertwine with Prometheus, sort of no matter what. Now just to get a better look at his genitals, if he had any.
"Oh... I could rub your belly. You always did act like a big cat."
no subject
"Belly rub? Mmm, that sound tempting..." Prometheus murmured. Hades's touch felt nice, even if still a little overwhelming - to go from no touch for over a thousand years to suddenly all this touching - and imagining those familiar, warm hands stroking down the sleek scales of his belly had him feeling curiously hot behind the sternum.
So, with a bit of a wriggle, he managed to roll over without too much splashing, inhaling enough air to 'store' in his lungs to keep him buoyant with his belly now facing upright. The scales were a little paler - more sooty grey than jet black - with some speckles of dark purple here and there. Between his hindlegs were a bump, a protective sheath if one looked close enough, with a closed slit just behind it.
no subject
He ran his hand down, curiously feeling the inside of his thighs. This part was softer with smaller scales, of course. It was a flex point, after all. He finally lifted himself onto Prometheus' belly, taking his time rubbing his underside with flat open palms in broad strokes. Hades felt some heat in his own cheeks, knowing what he was planning and arousing himself with it. He began to harden as he readjusted his hips to sit more comfortably.
He reached forward to stroke him again, this time allowing himself to run his hands over the bump. He pulled his palms over it, then set them back further as he was nearly laying on Prometheus to do so. His hands ran over the slit, and Hades found himself wondering what that was exactly, and tried to double back just playing it cool.
"Ah," Hades said, making a soft sound as he accidentally breached it with a finger. Too loose to be a cloaca... He pulled himself closer, laying his head against Prometheus' body as he tried to gently pull it apart. Were Prometheus to get hard in earnest, his cock would brush over his shoulder in this position.
